Last week we put a survey inside the app and asked you to help us make SubTasks better.
Over 300 of you answered.
Some of you wrote one line, some of you wrote us a small essay (which we loved!) but all of you shared what's working and not working for you inside the app we created.
So first of all, we want to say thank you. Filling in a survey is not the most fun activity on an evening, but you did it anyway.
Reading each one of your answers gave me a little glimpse of the individual persons behind this app. I read about how it helps you in your personal life, in your relationship, in your own organization and structure for your day, etc. It truly is a beautiful thing to get to see first hand how this app helps people.
And so many of you told us what you love. That SubTasks keeps you close when you're in different cities, or different time zones, or only together on weekends. That it gives your day a shape. That there's a private place for the spicy stuff, so it stays out of your everyday messages. Doms told us it takes some of the mental load of running a dynamic off their plate, and leaves them the fun part: being in charge. Those of you on Pro told us the photo proof, exact due times, custom repeats and timers are what made it worth it. And quite a few of you said you love seeing the app keep growing, and that we answer back.
A few things surprised us, too.
How many of you do this on your own. We built SubTasks for two people, and so many of you use it solo, to give your day some structure and a little submission of your own. It made us want to build more for you.
How many of you use it for structure. A lot of you mentioned ADHD, and use the app to keep your day on track as much as your dynamic. We love that it gets to do both.
How often the Taskee is the one setting it all up. In plenty of couples the Taskee is the one who's good with apps, so they do the typing and their Tasker does the deciding. A very practical kind of power exchange.
How creative you get. One of you turned rewards into daily rules and spins a wheel every morning to pick one, and plans weekend scenes from a spreadsheet. We did not see that coming, and we love it.
You also told us what would make it even better, and we're going to work on those, because we take this app and you very seriously. We already pushed a fix on Sunday: reminders before a task is due (if you haven't had one yet, check that notifications are switched on for SubTasks on your phone.)
And a few more things are on the way, like marking a task done when you forgot to tick it in time, seeing a habit's history with your notes and proof photos, sending each other photos and emoji reactions in chat, and choosing your own accent color for the app.
In the meantime, we wanted to send these articles to anyone having trouble getting ramped up.
